Jeremy Hunt narrowly beat fellow Conservative Julie Kirkbride to be named 'most fanciable MP' in a recent poll by Sky News.

A successful businessman, Hunt entered the Commons in 2005, succeeding former health secretary Virginia Bottomley in the marginal seat of South West Surrey. Six months later, he was made shadow minister for disabled people. He entered the shadow cabinet in his current role in 2007.

Hunt was brought up in affluent Surrey and his father was a senior officer in the Royal Navy. He attended Charterhouse School and continued to Oxford where he attained a first in PPE. Hunt worked briefly as a management consultant and English language teacher in Japan, and then as a PR consultant. He went on to set up the directory publishing company Hotcourses.

- Where does he sit politically?

Having only entered the Commons three years ago, Hunt has few political skeletons in his closet. In 2007, he co-authored an article in The Observer supporting David Cameron's commitment to 'progressive goals'. He is seen as a genuine 'Cameroon' who epitomises a new breed of urbane and socially liberal Tories.

Hunt is one of the best media performers on the Tory front bench, and a promotion beckons. He is seen by some as a potential future leader if he can develop a slightly harder edge.
