TfL to seek PR agency for tube brief

TfL: seek PR support

TfL: seek PR support

Matt Cartmell 10-Sep-08

Transport for London (TfL) is expected to issue a brief for help promoting tube upgrades that are causing a funding gap of £3billion.

A source said: ‘I think the brief is about them promoting their work to upgrade the tube - important now they are effectively doing Metronet work.’

Metronet, the contractor that was maintaining two-thirds of the tube, collapsed last year after building up a projected overspend of at least £2billion.

It was revealed this week that upgrades on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines will cause a funding gap of more than £3billion. TfL has blamed the government and said the Treasury would have to step in.

TfL lead senior press officer Adi Frost said that TfL had not yet issued a brief but refused to comment on whether they had any plans to do so in the future.

TfL uses the following roster of agencies: Freud Communications, Fishburn Hedges, London Communications Agency, Porter Novelli and Weber Shandwick.
