Consolidated to promote HPV cervical cancer vaccine to 17- to 18-year-olds.

Consolidated Communications has been appointed by the Department of Health to promote the HPV cervical cancer vaccine to 17- to 18-year old girls. The £100,000 campaign will include media relations, consumer activity tailored towards older teenage girls, parents and stakeholders. It follows Consolidated's existing HPV promotion focusing on 12- to 13-year-old girls and their mums.

Westminster City Council has signed a nine-month contract worth £100,000 to manage, review and make recommendations on Basildon Council's communications. Westminster will focus on Basildon as an enterprising town with a motivated workforce. Westminster has recruited Paul Ilett, from South East Essex Primary Care Trust, to be Basildon's head of comms from November.

Slough Borough Council has begun a campaign to promote itself as a diverse location and a good place to do business. This follows a review undertaken by Westminster City Council in 2006 that recommended 'a convincing narrative for Slough based on its attributes - business, diversity and locality'.

Stoke-on-Trent's elected mayor Mark Meredith has accused Stoke comms chief Dan Barton of 'sabotaging' his efforts to run the city, Staffordshire's The Sentinel reports. Meredith sent a written complaint to council manager Steve Robinson listing 27 occasions when Barton's department is alleged to have fallen below Meredith's expectations.

Birmingham City Council has printed more than 360,000 leaflets to encourage civic pride that have accidentally been emblazoned with the skyline of Birmingham, Alabama, reports The Telegraph. Despite the gaffe, council officials have insisted the pamphlet will not be recalled, pulped or reprinted.
