Lehman Bros comms chief eyes new role

Andrew Gowers: eye on new role

Andrew Gowers: eye on new role

Alec Mattinson 16-Sep-08

Lehman Brothers comms chief and former FT editor Andrew Gowers is believed to be close to securing a new job following the dramatic collapse of the US bank this week.

It is understood that Gowers left his position as the bank's head of corporate comms for Europe and Asia late last week, at a time when many market observers still expected a rival to put together a package to rescue the bank.

The remaining members of Lehman’s comms team are still working at the bank, managing the press coverage surrounding its wind-up.

Although he was unable to confirm details at this stage, it is believed Gowers has already lined up another role. Speaking on Monday, he told PRWeek he was 'looking at other opportunities'.

Gowers, one of the best connected PROs in the City, is unlikely to be short of options. Having overseen a review of intellectual property for the Government he also has impeccable political contacts.

He has previously stated that eventually he wishes to move into managing businesses, and viewed his Lehman role as a stepping-stone towards that aim.
