TfL to restructure PA function after Hamilton exit

Transport for London (TfL) is set to lose head of group public affairs Bill Hamilton this week.

The PA department of TfL – which has been bereft of a permanent PR chief since MD of group comms Locksley Ryan quit this summer – will be restructured in the wake of Hamilton’s departure as bosses seek to place more emphasis on communication with stakeholders.

Ryan’s interim replacement, London Communications Agency director Luke Blair, to whom Hamilton reports, said: ‘There is a misperception out there – that we don’t listen to stakeholders – that I want to tackle head-on.’

TfL does not plan to seek a replacement for Hamilton until the PA team has been restructured. Hamilton is understood to want to continue working in PA within the Greater London Authority, which funds TfL.

Blair said TfL, which currently does not retain a public affairs agency, is ‘always interested’ in hearing ‘top-level, useful, focused advice’ from PA agencies.

Following the news of Hamilton’s departure, Blair’s interim contract has been extended to January.
