PUBLIC SECT0R: Govt to target the young with drive on sexual health
The Government is to target 18 to 30-year-olds on low incomes in its first major sexual health campaign since the 'Aids - Don't Die of Ignorance' push in the 1980s.
Cases of sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) - such as gonorrhoea and syphilis - in England, Wales and Northern Ireland doubled in the decade to 2001 to 1.3m.
Media relations work to launch this month will target lifestyle magazines in a bid to 'remove the taboo' of STIs, according to Jo Marino, associate director of Harrison Cowley, which is handling PR for the campaign.
The campaign, which is built around a Lottery theme - 'Don't play the sex Lottery - use a condom', is part of the Government's first National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV, published in July 2001.
HC - which won the work after a four-way pitch - has been appointed to handle the campaign until March 2004.
